ETTW is Spokesman for and Defender of The European Expatriates |
One of the statutory aims of The Europeans Throughout the World is to act as a Spokesman for the European expatriates towards all authorities and be their defender. There is a particular attention to the European citizens (nationals of the EU countries) who live and work in a so-called third country i.e. a country outside the European Union area be it Europe, North and South America, Asia, Australasia or elsewhere in the world. There are millions of them, and they are sometimes forgotten by the European authorities or by the national authorities of their home country.

The STOCKHOLM RECOMMENDATIONS |
|
The STOCKHOLM RECOMMENDATIONS The "Stockholm Recommendations" ( English) ( Français) , which bring together in summary form all the major demands and concerns that The Europeans throughout the World have worked on during the last 25 years, were adopted at the 25th Anniversary meeting held in Stockholm, at the invitation of the Federation Swedes Abroad, on 14 - 15 May 2009.
They have been sent to all EU Permanent Representatives and the Presidents of the Council, the European Parliament and the European Commission. Stockholm, 14th May 2009 STOCKHOLM RECOMMENDATIONSOn the occasion of the 25th anniversary of their founding, The Europeans throughout the World, the confederation of associations of European expatriates, meeting in Stockholm at the kind invitation of the Federation Swedes Abroad, recalls that citizens of the European Union living in another country than their own throughout the world are estimated to number between 60 and 80 million, thus together forming the equivalent of a large member state, make very substantial contributions to Europe's presence in the world, and should be considered a great asset for Europe. The Europeans throughout the Worldurges European national governments and the institutions of the European Union, particularly the European Parliament,
to give political and practical recognition and support to this large body of citizens, many of whom have a very high degree of international mobility, consistent with and often a consequence of the progress of the EU and their professional and societal role within it; to act upon the following recommendations, which proceed from over fifty-five years of experience of the EU and twenty-five years of action, and which also build upon and extend the Paris Declaration adopted at the Meeting of European Citizens resident outside their country of origin in Paris on 30 September 2008.

The ETTW 25th Anniversary Meeting, Stockholm, 14-15 May 2009 |
|
30 May 2009. 25th Anniversary Meeting and General AssemblyStockholm, 14 – 15 May 2009.
25 delegates and some with their spouses from 13 ETTW member associations met in Stockholm on 14 – 15 May 2009 upon invitation from the Swedish member association Swedes Abroad. The meeting had a particular importance as it was held at the eve of Sweden taking the EU Presidency for the second semester of 2009, and the delegates met with representatives of the Swedish political environment. The event celebrated the 25th anniversary of ETTW, but was forward looking as the delegates agreed on a set of recommendations – The Stockholm Recommendations – addressed to national and European authorities for the benefit of the 60 to 80 million Europeans living in another country than their own and for whom the ETTW serves as a spokesman and defender.

the objectives of The Europeans Throughout the World to organise the European

since a very long time ago.
